Waterbirths

Have you ever witnessed a waterbirth? I was the midwife at six waterbirths this year alone. I had two women completely immerse themselves in water. One had seen the Russian waterbirth tape, the other had not. I have found that women need water when they are in labor. Women are drawn to it. Most women want to take a shower, soak in a tub while laboring, or give birth in water. Don't settle for putting your feet into hospital stirrups-----put your feet into hot water instead!

  1. Hey Tori, this is Julie Choat. You were my doula at my son's labor in August, 2007 just 2 days after April Howton's baby was born. I don't know if you know but I am about due for our next baby, a boy again due on Aug. 22nd. April is going to be my doula for this one and I am planning to have a water birth at Brookwood. I am excited, but also nervous. I didn't know you had so much experience with water births. They are letting me go at least two weeks over my due date before they will make me be induced. I am hoping and praying it doesn't come to that again. Because last time they induced he was just not ready to come out. I am nervous that it is going to be as painful as it was the last time! I don't know much about what to expect except for what April has told me. They seem real supportive at Brookwood and very encouraging. I am very thankful for that! I just hope I can go into labor on my own. Do you have any advice or words of wisdom?=) You were so great at my last labor, despite how awful and painful it was! I was embarrassed because I felt like I had no control! Probably your worst birth ever, huh?! I wished I could have come to your birthday party a while back. I hope you had a great time! Take care! Love, Julie Choat.
